    Numerous searches have involved le bioactive molecules that characterize this food.

    Like artichokes, cardoons are hepatoprotective thanks alle them purifying properties e anticirrhotics. Among the substances believed to be responsible for this property is la silymarin.

    It is a blend of three active ingredients (silybin, silycristin and silidianina), of which il milk thistle, or milk thistle.

    Silymarin is used in case of intoxications caused by alcohol, hepatitis, drugs or even poisonous mushrooms, in particular Amanita Phalloides.

    But silymarin is known and used also in thesports environment. Thanks to its properties it is in fact able to reduce toxic effects on the liver due to the intake of anabolic steroids oral.

    Some studies report, among the qualities of silymarin, also that of stimulate the production of breast milk. However, in this regard, EFSA (the European Food Safety Authority) did not deem it appropriate to authorize any public evidence in the absence of sufficient scientific evidence to justify it.
