Myrtle of Sardinia: ZEUS

Legend has it that the ancient Greeks considered the Myrtle plant to be a "good omen" and used the branches and leaves to decorate their clothes to give energy and vigor.

Zeus, king of the Olympian gods, creator and protector of the gymnastic games, loved to crown victors with myrtle sprigs. Over time, the plant has also been associated with the concept of femininity, becoming sacred to APHRODITE and, in Roman mythology, to VENUS, the goddess of love. In Sardinia, this ancient shrub finds its ideal habitat thanks to the particular climate that allows the berries to ripen just right, resulting in a delicious natural liqueur, when infused properly.

It's said that this nectar originated in families, in our homes. Today, it's also produced by hand in companies, thus becoming a tradition on our island. Maria Antonietta, owner of San Martino Liquori, recounts that as a child, she would go with her parents to the "Sette Fratelli" mountains to pick myrtle berries to make the liqueur. She passed this life experience and recipe on to her company, where, together with Alessandro and her sons Gabriele and Simone, she has been producing "Myrtle Liqueur like homemade" for over 30 years: natural!! sweet!! vigorous!!
