Myrtle of Sardinia: ZEUS

Legend has it that the ancient Greeks considered the Myrtle plant a "Good Wish" and used the branches with leaves to adorn their clothes so as to give energy and vigor.

ZEUS, the king of the Olympian Gods, creator, protector of gymnastic games, loved to crown the winners with Myrtle twigs. Over time the plant has also been associated with the concept of femininity, becoming sacred to APHRODITES and, in Roman mythology, to VENUS, the Goddess of love. In Sardinia this ancient shrub finds its ideal habitat thanks to the particular climate which gives the berries the right ripeness so as to obtain, with an adequate infusion, a delicious natural liqueur.

It is said that this nectar was born in families, in our homes. Today it is also produced by hand in companies, thus becoming a "tradition" of our island. Maria Antonietta, owner of San Martino Liquori, says that as a child she went with her parents to the "Sette Fratelli" mountains to collect myrtle berries to make liqueur. He has passed on his life experience and recipe to his company where, together with Alessandro and his sons Gabriele and Simone, he has been producing natural "Myrtle Liqueur like the homemade one" for over 30 years!! lovely!! vigorous!!
