Why choose a goat cheese?
More and more people are choosing to consume goat's milk and cheese, but beyond the taste, what are the benefits we can obtain by introducing them into our diet?
1- Digestibility and lightness
We know that goat cheese is leaner and easier to digest than other cheeses, but let's try to understand why together.
The main characteristic is its lipid content, composed of short-chain fatty acids, which, being formed by very small molecules, are more easily digestible.
It is often recommended because it is a “ cholesterol-free cheese” due to the presence of these fats which do not affect blood cholesterol levels in any way.
2- Makes your gut happy
We can define goat cheese as “gut-friendly” for two important reasons: it is very rich in lactic acid bacteria , which help maintain a balanced intestinal flora; and at the same time, it contains very little casein , a milk protein that causes bloating and unpleasant intestinal problems in those intolerant to this component.
Natural fresh goat cheese is made with raw milk and without the addition of rennet, through spontaneous acid coagulation. During this process, lactic acid bacteria convert lactose into lactic acid, making the cheese more digestible and giving it its characteristic flavor.
3- Rich in nutrients
The goat is an animal that does not lend itself to intensive breeding or force-feeding to increase its milk production.
The environment in which it can provide its best milk is the mountain pasture where it can graze freely.
Goat's milk stands out from other milks for its optimal content of iron , mineral salts ( calcium and phosphorus ) and vitamins (particularly B2 ) which help our body in growth and development.
4- A full load of energy
Each type of cheese has its own season, as we've already mentioned in this article, but speaking of goat cheeses: what's the best season to enjoy them?
The best time to consume fresh goat cheese is spring , from March onwards, when the weaning of the young is complete and the milk can be used to make cheese.
But there is another good reason to consume it in this season: the high presence of taurine in goat's milk has a natural energetic effect, which helps us face the arrival of spring with more vigor.
5- We've always eaten it
Among the varieties of milk, goat's milk was the first to be milked and consumed by humans.
Numerous testimonies demonstrate how in ancient times, the civilizations of the Mediterranean basin and the East used goat's milk to produce cheese.
An ancient food that has always represented the privileged nourishment of newborns and children due to its similarity to breast milk .
